Donny Smith
Supervisor - Central Florida
Donny is the perfect person to be the first in our Supervisor Spotlight as he has been a part of the company longer than anyone else, having been hired in January, 1999. It hasn't always been the glitz and glamour of management for Donny though. In the beginning, he both drove a truck and ran a sales territory, a job that required him to meet the shuttle driver from Miami before the sun came up, and to work until the truck was empty, no matter how late it may have been. The truck had to be empty to switch out the next morning!
As time went on, people started to realize that his great personality, cool head, and "can-do" attitude were highly suited to management, and so he was rewarded with a promotion to Swing Man--a job that was so horrible that when Gardenvision was officially born from Costa Color, we did away with the title and will never use it again.
Today, Donny is the Supervisor for one of the highest visibility territories in the company--one that includes the Buyer's office and Home Store. Day after day, week after week, Donny is a rock who inspires his team to not only get every table full, but also to pay strict attention to details. It is extremely rare that anyone can find even the slightest miscue in one of Donny's stores.
In addition, he usually covers for the vacationing Supervisors around him, is generally called upon whenever there is a special project to be undertaken (we all thank him for his recent trip to Louisiana where he helped to cover for a Supervisor who left the company suddenly), and even found time this past year to participate in two of the Extreme Makeover:Home Edition events.
Beyond that, Donny is famous within our group for his non-alcoholic beers, unusual preoccupation with food sharing, kind heart, great sense of humor, immaculate beard, and for his Harley. We look forward to many more years of his company, and hope that those of you who know him will give him a well deserved pat on the back.
